Fun Dog Facts: Dog Heroism Story From Michael

Among Michael’s favorite dog stories are tales of dogs that are heroic.

In this video, Michael, co-author of “Bash and Lucy Fetch Confidence,” tells the story of a dog who saved two girls by jumping in front of a motorcycle that was about to hit them.

Watch the video here:

The dog, named Kabang, jumped in front of a motorcycle and saved her owner’s daughter and niece. The heroic act took place in The Filippines, according to an article in the Washington Times. The dog lost half her face doing the good deed.

A nurse from Buffalo, N.Y. was so moved by the dog’s heroics that she championed a campaign to raise $27,000 in donations to bring the dog to the US for treatment.

Filipino veterinarian Anton Lim accompanied the dog to the US and said donations came from people in 45 countries.

In the Washinton Times story, Lim is quoted as saying that Kabang has become a symbol for “unconditional love.”

“Now, if you give unconditional love to your dog, of course they will give it back to you. So, she saved two lives so the whole world actually came together to save hers, so it is really a very nice symbol for everyone,” he was quoted as saying.

I think heroic stories appeal to people of all ages because it shows how truly loving & selfless dogs can be. I remember this saying my friend told me, dogs are the only living things that love you more than you love yourself.

Lovely story, Michael. I’d look forward to reading your dog blog as it updates, I’d love to see posts about dog toys, times you were upset with your dog (if any?) or how you deal with family & friends that don’t like dogs!

What a great story, Michael! I love the theme of unconditional love going back and forth between the dog saving her “pack” of humans, and a worldwide “pack” of people who pitched in to save her in return.
